Review: Thoughtless Series by S. C. Stephens

I would like to start by thanking S. C. Stephens for writing a full length books, not 250 page short stories. I usually just download books because I am addicted to reading. I am a sucker for a good romance. I downloaded the Thoughtless series of books and they were just there on my Kindle for quite some time. I wanted to read them, the only reason I did not was because there were other books on my To Be Read list I just wanted to read just to get it out of my system. Last week I finally finished the books and got to these.

When I started reading Thoughtless I was addicted. It quickly became a book I had to finish fast. Love Triangles wreck me. By the time I had finished reading Thoughtless and Effortless I “need(ed) a minute.” I was shattered after I finished them, to the extent where my friend asked if I was feeling ok? She thought I was depressed about something. I told her I had to take a break from reading for a couple of day. These books really did a number on me. My heart bled for Denny and Kellan but I could not find myself hating Kiera for the choices she made. Loving two men at the same time is not as far fetched as it seems. There are personalities in everyone which we can relate to and find ourselves forming an attachment. These two books were a roller coaster ride that was worth the time taken to read them.

I still can’t stop thinking about the three sweethearts in these books. I had to read Reckless just to get closure. When I finished Thoughtless I could not fall asleep or wake up without thinking about Kiera and Kellan. I grew an attachement to these two. I wanted to risk the book hangover to read all night just so I knew all was well in their world. I couldn’t do it, at some point I had to sleep but my sleep was haunted by their story. I felt the same way after I read Effortless. With Denny showing up and Kellan on tour it was back to the heartbreak all over again.

Last night I finally finished Reckless and I finally got a good night of sleep because I had closure. It is insane to feel this much about fictional characters? Yes, I know it is. I think the reason it has more of an affect on me is because I have been in a triangle situation in the past and found myself in love with two equally different men. I didn’t want to hurt either but I knew in my heart I was meant to be with one for the rest of my life even though the man I was with was also someone who I was deeply in love with. He was my Denny.

When I started reading Thoughtless I remembered another series of books I read a while back which also involved a love triangle. Much more tumultuous than this one and the ending was completely not what I expected. I liked the books until I got to half of the last book (book 4) then the story started turning in a whole new direction. I wanted to throw my kindle at someone when I got to the big reveal. Those books are still in my thoughts. The reason I bring this up is that when I finally finished Reckless I started reading the acknowledgements (something I typically don’t do). While reading them I saw that S. C. Stephens thanked K. A. Linde who happened to be the very same author of the series of books I was thinking about. Now this makes perfect sense. I see how Stephens was somewhat influenced by the story. I get it now.

For almost two years now, Kiera’s boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she’s ever wanted: loving, tender, and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together—Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university—everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart. Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source—a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he’s purely a friend she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes…and none of them will ever be the same.

After being caught in the middle of a love triangle that led to a devastating betrayal, Kiera pledged to learn from the mistakes she’d made. She was determined to never again inflict that kind of pain on anyone, especially the soulful, talented man who held her heart. But life offers new challenges for every relationship, and when Kiera’s love is put to the ultimate test, will it survive? Love is easy…trust is hard. – See more at:
