Review: Run for Your Life

Run for Your Life
Run for Your Life by James Patterson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Decided to take a break from romance to go back to one of my favorite authors. I have been avidly reading his Alex Cross and Women’s Murder Club series so when one of my customer’s lent me this book I had to see if this was another series I could get into. She have me Book 2 of the series, not that it makes a difference. I think they can be read alone.
I have been taking a break from James Patterson for a while. His method of writing was frustrating to me. The 2 page chapters with the mini cliff hangers were getting redundant. This has greatly to do with me reading many of his books back to back. When I was reading this book I looked to see where I was and I saw I was on chapter 30 something and page 70 something. I just want to read everything at once instead of spending most of my time turning pages because the chapters are so short. When then makes me feel like I was short changed. The book is supposed to be 373 pages. If you take the chapter breaks into consideration then you might really just be getting 300 pages of a real book. I want 73 pages of a real story especially when I paying real dollars for a hardcover book.
Wow, how do I really feel? I did’t think it was bothering me as much as it really is.

Anyway…

Back to this book. I liked the switch in stories. It had the right amount of suspense and thrills. Will I read more from this series? Probably not. I have Alex Cross and I think that is enough.

Sweet Home Series by Tillie Cole

I love when I come across books accidentally. I was scrolling through some pictures of books fellow bookworms were reading on Instagram when I saw some post about Sweet Home and the other books in The Sweet Home series by Tillie Cole. Being the addict I am  I had to get on Goodreads and read what they were about.

These three books are so sweet they make my heart melt. I loved each and every one. I do have to say my favorite is Sweet Home but man oh man did Sweet Fall make me want to crawl deep into my sheets and just cry. Sweet Fall is not meant to be read for the weak at heart. I had to stop reading several times while reading it. There are parts which are just so heartbreaking and tragic I had to take a mental break. It was extremely well written you can tell it came from the heart.

Sweet Hope was beautiful and the Spotify soundtrack with all the songs from the book is perfect!

These books are very well written and follow a great flow. I fell in love with each of these sweet and tragic men.

I did not read the second book Sweet Rome yet. It is written in Rome’s POV. I want to wait a while before I start that. It’s just something I do when books are written from each person’s point of view. I will read a couple of other books before I go back to Rome.

Sweet Hope

At age twenty, Molly Shakespeare knows a lot.

She knows Descartes and Kant.

She knows academia and Oxford.

She knows that the people who love you leave you.

She knows how to be alone.

But when Molly leaves England’s grey skies behind to start a new life at the University of Alabama, she finds that she has a lot to learn — she didn’t know a summer could be so hot, she didn’t know students could be so intimidating, and she certainly didn’t know just how much the folks of Alabama love their football.

When a chance encounter with notorious star quarterback, Romeo Prince, leaves her unable to think of anything but his chocolate-brown eyes, dirty-blond hair and perfect physique, Molly soon realises that her quiet, solitary life is about to dramatically change forever…

Sweet Fall

We all have secrets.

Secrets well buried.

Until we find the one soul who makes the burden of such secrets just that little bit easier to bear.

Lexington “Lexi” Hart is a senior at the University of Alabama. Surrounded by her best friends, her loving family and having fulfilled her life-long dream of making the Crimson Tide cheer squad, everything is going exactly as she always dreamed it would. But beneath her happy exterior, demons lurk, threatening to jeopardize everything Lexi has worked to achieve. When events in her life become too much to cope with, Lexi finds herself spiraling down into the realm of her biggest fear. Lexi falls hard, victim once again to the only thing that can destroy her and, on the way, finds herself falling straight into the dangerous tattooed arms of a guy from the wrong side of the tracks.

Austin Carillo, starting Wide Receiver for the Alabama Crimson Tide, must get picked in this year’s NFL draft. He needs it. His brothers need it. Most importantly, his mother desperately needs it. Brought up in a world where the poor are forgotten, the sick are left to fend for themselves and no hero miraculously appears to pull you out of hell, Austin had no other choice but to make a living on the wrong side of the law—until football offered Austin the break to get his life back on track. But when a family tragedy drags him back into the clutches of the gang he believed he had left far behind, Austin finds himself falling. Falling back into criminal ways and falling deep into a suffocating darkness. Until a troubled yet kindred spirit stumbles across his path, where Austin quickly finds he is falling for a young woman, a young woman who might just have the power to save him from his worst enemy: himself.

Can two troubled souls find a lasting peace together? Or will they finally succumb to the demons threatening to destroy them?

Sweet Hope

My name is Ally Prince and I’ve always been unlucky in love. I don’t know why, I just always… have.

When all of my best friends were falling for their soul mates in College, I was left behind. I was Ally, the pretty cousin of superstar quarterback, Romeo Prince. I was Ally, the best friend to the most amazing group of girls I’ve ever known—a title I loved, but one I became tired of ‘just’ being. And I was Ally, the one on which they could all rely.

But to me, I was Ally, the girl with the heart no one had claimed… And I was, Ally, the girl, who underneath it all, was heart-breakingly lonely.

I LOVE love; the thought of it, the nervous excitement of falling for Mr. Right, the desire of someone becoming my entire world… of me becoming theirs. I’ve always wanted passion, heart-stopping, epic, life-changing romance… I’ve always wanted the fairytale… I’ve always wanted it all.

It just never seemed like I would get it.

For the past few years I’ve thrown myself into my career as a museum curator. I’m the best of the best, the person every museum wants to hire, so when an opportunity came up to move to Seattle, I jumped at the chance. My cousin and my best friend lived in Seattle and I needed a change.

I needed a new beginning.

I wasn’t expecting to meet anyone in the Emerald City. I wasn’t expecting to work closely with the reclusive new sculptor my all-important gallery design was centered around. And I certainly wasn’t expecting to fall for him… heart-stopping, epic, life-changing love…
My real life fairytale come true.

But, like in every fairytale, there’s a villain, a dark and tortured soul… I just didn’t know that the villain and the hero in my story would end up being one and the same.

Review: Manwhore

Manwhore
Manwhore by Katy Evans

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Why did I start this book without seeing it was going to be a series? I do not like to wait to read what happens. As of this book I am making a vow not to ever read a book in a series/trilogy until all books have been published. I really wish these authors would just write one standalone book telling the whole story.

That being said, I liked this story. I was sweet. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this story (I really wish I did not have to wait). I am going to hold off on my real real feelings about this story until I read what else happens.

I have noticed when authors break up the story into multiple installments they tend to throw in extra bits of unnecessary drama just to fill the word count. Won’t know if that is true until book two and three (maybe four).

coverAll I Want (Alabama Summer Series Book 2) by J. Daniels

Luke Evans is a heartbreaker.
I didn’t want to give mine to him. Not when he kept me out.
He gave me enough, just enough to make me fall in love with him. I say this to convince myself. But I know the truth. I would’ve fallen in love with him at a distance.
Handing my heart over to Luke was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. I was naive when I wished for more, when I hoped he wanted the same things I did.
I try to hate him. I try to forget him.
But it’s not that easy.

Love is a ruthless bitch, and I’m her latest victim.
Tessa Kelly is a man-eater.
When she sets her sights on you, she doesn’t just consume your heart, she goes for your soul.
What we had was perfect, real, and all I would ever want.
But she destroyed it.
She destroyed us.
I try to hate her. I try to forget her.
But it’s not that easy.
Love is for people who have hope, and I have none.

When I Fall (Alabama Summer Series Book 3) by J. Daniels

For the past nine years, I’ve kept my heart as far away from my dick as possible.

Those two can’t be anywhere near each other. They don’t play nice, and one of them undoubtedly winds up getting hurt.

The women I take home know exactly what they’re getting from me—sex. Nothing more. At least, that’s what’s supposed to happen. The sweet brunette from Kentucky I set my sights on tonight shouldn’t have been any different. I had her right where I wanted her. Where I needed her. But when my past comes walking into McGill’s pub, the woman in my arms decides to take things to a whole new level, putting me into a situation I never saw coming.

Dark Pleasures (1-3) by J. Kenner

I typically do not read the reviews about a book before I start reading them. If I am a fan of the the author I don’t even read the synopsis because I just know the book is just going to be good. I really wish I had done both of those things when it came to these novellas. I am not a fan of paranormal or fantasy books. I am sure for someone who likes that genre they would enjoy these novellas. I am, however, someone who enjoys reading. Even though I did not like the type of story this I can always appreciate a well written book. Lots of fantasy. I liked the flame heads and the ability to heal without scars.

What I don’t understand about certain authors who publish these novellas within days of each other is why do they use up precious word count to recap what happened in the previous book? Each of these books are under 150 pages. They were all published within three days of each other. I would already know what happened and  I don’t want to read the same thing I just read over again. It takes away from the progression of the story, in my opinion. Another thing I don’t get…why not just publish one book if you are going to release them all at the same time. It would just be one continuous story without losing any flow.

The next time I am at a book signing or book event this will be one of the questions which I will be sure to ask. I like Julie Kenner, I had the pleasure of meeting her at BookBash in Orlando. I have enjoyed reading her other books. I just could not get into these. The books are great, they just are not my cup of tea.

Right up until tragedy struck. Now, he’s nothing but controlled. He’s a man on a mission, one who will let nothing and no one stand in his way.

Neither one has been totally honest. And they’ll soon learn that the devil is in the details. In the details and in the lies.
How far will two people go to live in the now when the now is all they’ve got?

Book 2

He never wanted to be a hero…until she needed him to be.

Strength…
It took Kennedy Moore years to put her life back together after Reese Spencer shattered it. But she did. Now, years later, strong and independent, she is in pursuit of a single dream—to dance with the Altman American Dance Theater. Unfortunately, Kennedy is learning that a girl from nowhere with no money and no contacts might never be able to reach her goal.

That is, until Reese reappears, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that Kennedy just can’t refuse. In exchange for working on his yacht for a few short weeks, he’ll get her an audition with the famous dance troupe. All Kennedy has to do is keep her head down, work hard and resist Reese. That sounds easy enough, right?

Weakness…
Reese doesn’t want to make it easy for Kennedy. Seeing her again has started a fire in his blood—an unwelcome one. It took him years to forget about her before, so this time he has a plan. It’s simple: Get Kennedy on his yacht, seduce her, get her out of his system, move on with his life. That sounds easy enough, right?

But the one thing Reese didn’t plan for was Kennedy herself—a girl so strong yet so broken, she makes him want to rescue her, to take care of her. To save her. Even if he has to save her from himself.

Book 3

Pretending to be something they’re not, afraid to trust anyone completely, destined to tear each other apart– this is the story of unlikely love and unbearable consequences.

Sig Locke is a cop. He was raised by a cop and all his brothers are cops. He bleeds blue, believes in right and wrong, and sees in black and white, never in shades of gray.

But that was before he met Tommi.

Tommi, with her long legs and bright green eyes, she captured Sig’s interest from the moment he saw her. Even after he discovered who she was–the girlfriend of a drug dealer, the beauty behind a criminal–he still found her utterly irresistible. What Sig doesn’t know, however, is that she has a secret even a cop can’t uncover.

Tommi Lawrence hasn’t had an easy life, and it only got more complicated the day she met Sig. She learned long ago that she can’t trust anyone. Her gut tells her that Sig is no exception, her heart tells her that he is. But that was before she found out his real identity.

Can love be forged in a fire of lies? Or will the truth destroy them both?

Review: Leo’s ChanceLeo

Leo’s Chance
by Mia Sheridan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I waited a little while to read Leo’s point of view so that I could experience this story all over again. It seemed to the same to me. I did not feel like there was much more added to Leo’s side of the story. It just picked up right where Leo started. The flashbacks helped fill in some of the holes. I just had a hard time buying into the story of someone’s face changing so much and knowing you loved them so much that you would not just recognize them. If the love was as true and deep as the author wants you to believe then would the eyes have not been enough for her to recognize?

A companion (alternate POV) novel to the USA Today bestselling book, Leo. Does everyone deserve a second chance? Even someone who lies and deceives to get it? Do we all have a second chance coming? Even if we play a part in our own destruction? How hard would you fight to have a second chance at love? A second chance at life? Another chance to tell your own story? Every love story has two sides. Evie told hers. This time it’s Leo’s chance.
